A few years ago at age 6, I checked out a book about rhinos from my school library. I was fascinated by how much they resemble certain dinosaurs (I love dinosaurs too!). It is amazing how big and scary rhinos seem, but they are so sweet and cute. Towards the end of the book I read that the rhinos are in danger of becoming extinct. This made me very upset and I was determined to do something about it. I didn't know what to do, so I got out my crayons and wrote a letter to Washington D.C. Rhino Keepers. My parents saw how passionate I was about this and helped me find Rhino Conservation Organizations that I could contact, The International Rhino Foundation in particular.
Since that day I have had the opportunity to talk with several elementary school classes about Rhinos, I have been featured in several newspapers and received awards for my fundraising efforts, I adopted a Sumatran Rhino named Andalas in Indonesia, and through friends, family, school, church, and the local community, I have raised thousands of dollars for the International Rhino Foundation to directly benefit Rhino Conservation. I was even featured on Great Day Houston, a morning TV show, along with the IRF President, Dr. Susie Ellis! I am also very proud to say that I am recognized as one of the IRF Kids, the International Rhino Foundation's group of children dedicated to the survival of the rhinoceros! This is just the beginning for me and I have big plans to continue on my mission.
There are so many wonderful things about these animals that most people don't know. I think that if people would just take a little time to read and learn about these beautiful creatures, they would want to help them just as much as I do.
